David Ellison and his family have invested approximately US$17 billion as part of Paramount Skydance Corp’s acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery Inc, according to recent public filings. The investment was made through the purchase of an estimated 1.4 billion shares in a stock offering, with shares priced at US$12 each.

The deal, which valued Warner Bros at around US$110 billion, included an equity component of US$47 billion. Alongside the Ellison family’s contribution, the transaction involved participation from three Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds, which provided about US$24 billion, RedBird Capital Partners, which invested US$4 billion, and South Korean retailer Shinsegae Group, which contributed US$1 billion.

The newly merged entity, now operating under the name Skydance Corp, has not commented on the Ellisons’ additional investment. This latest infusion builds on an earlier commitment of roughly US$8 billion made by the Ellison family and RedBird Capital last year when they gained control of Paramount. The Ellisons hold a controlling interest in the company through ownership of voting shares.

While details regarding the exact source of the Ellisons’ funds remain undisclosed, Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle Corp, revealed on September 25 that he had pledged 67 million Oracle shares over the past year as collateral for personal loans. Those shares were valued at more than US$9 billion based on Oracle’s share price at that time.

Following the completion of the merger on Tuesday, Skydance shares declined approximately 9%.
