Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, accused the Ukrainian military of violating the terms of service for Starlink satellite internet by using the system to conduct offensive drone attacks aimed at killing people. Musk made the remarks on his social media platform X on Saturday, stating that a loophole allowing such use was closed the previous week. He did not provide specific evidence or examples supporting the claim.

Starlink, a commercial satellite internet service operated by Musk’s company SpaceX, is intended primarily for civilian and defensive purposes, according to Musk. He noted that a separate military system, Starshield, is controlled by the United States government. The Ukrainian military relies on Starlink for air defense against Russia’s ongoing invasion, as well as for drone operations, logistics, and communications.

In recent days, Ukrainian officials expressed concern over a slowdown in access to Starlink’s services, although the cause of the disruption remained unclear. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that connections to Starlink and Starshield had been restored to their previous speeds. He emphasized the importance of the service for frontline logistics and defending against Russian drone attacks, specifically referring to jet-powered Shahed drones used by Russia.

Musk stressed that Starlink remains crucial to Ukraine’s defense capabilities, warning that if the service were to be cut off, Ukraine’s front line would collapse immediately. He clarified that this statement was not a threat but a fact. Musk also asserted that SpaceX had contributed more to Ukraine’s defense than any other private company worldwide.

In addition to his comments on Starlink’s usage, Musk expressed strong criticism of what he described as “virtue-signaling evil warmongers” who promote continued conflict without offering realistic solutions. He concluded his statement by condemning those advocating for endless warfare.
