The Royal Thai Embassy in Doha has launched a culinary diplomacy initiative aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Thailand and Qatar through the celebration of authentic Thai cuisine. Titled “Thailand on a Plate: A Culinary Journey,” the program is running from August 3 to 11, 2026, at four prominent Thai restaurants in Doha: Isaan at Grand Hyatt Doha Hotel & Villas, Thai Kitchen at Centara West Bay Hotel & Residences, Benjarong at Dusit Doha Hotel, and Saffron at Banyan Tree Doha Hotel.

The initiative brings together journalists, members of the Qatar Businesswomen Association, representatives of the diplomatic community, and the public to engage in an immersive experience centered on Thailand’s culinary heritage. Participants are guided by expert Thai chefs in preparing classic dishes including Tom Yum Goong, a spicy and sour prawn soup, and Phad Ka Prao Gai, stir-fried minced chicken with holy basil, chili, and garlic. In addition to cooking, attendees gain insight into the historical context, traditional techniques, unique ingredients, flavor balance, wellness principles, and the hospitality integral to Thai food culture.

Kit Devahastin, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Thai Embassy in Doha, emphasized that Thai cuisine represents more than just food, describing it as a reflection of Thailand’s culture, creativity, and warmth. He noted that initiatives like this one create meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange, bringing the peoples of Thailand and Qatar closer together. Devahastin highlighted the role of Thai restaurants in Qatar as ambassadors of Thai culture, introducing authentic flavors to locals and expatriates alike. The embassy plans to continue these efforts with the upcoming Thai Restaurant Week 2026: A Taste of Thailand, scheduled for September.

The culinary diplomacy program builds on a series of successful collaborations between the embassy and Thai restaurants in Qatar. Previous engagements include Thai Souq Fest 2024, Thai Restaurant Week 2025, and Together at the Table 2026, all designed to foster cultural understanding and sustain the friendship between the two countries through gastronomy.

Participants expressed gratitude for the chance to learn authentic Thai cooking and engage directly with the culture. Through such initiatives, the Royal Thai Embassy aims to enhance mutual understanding, promote cultural appreciation, and reinforce the longstanding friendship between Thailand and Qatar by sharing the richness of Thai cuisine.
