Emirates NBD reported a 15 percent increase in income for the first nine months of 2026, reaching Dh42.2 billion, driven by robust lending activity, rising customer deposits, and growth across its core markets. The Dubai-based bank’s profit before tax grew 4 percent year-on-year to Dh24.3 billion, despite facing higher impairment and hyperinflation charges. Operating profit before impairment rose 14 percent to Dh29 billion during the period.
Total assets at Emirates NBD stood at Dh1.38 trillion at the end of September, marking an 18 percent rise since the beginning of the year and a 21 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Gross loans increased 27 percent year-to-date to Dh833 billion, supported by sector-wide growth and markets, alongside the acquisition of RBL Bank in India, completed in June. Excluding RBL Bank, the loan portfolio expanded by 18 percent over the nine months.
Customer deposits climbed 19 percent to Dh935 billion, with deposit growth excluding RBL Bank at 12 percent. New lending during the first nine months totaled Dh174 billion, driven by a 17 percent rise in retail loans and a 22 percent increase in corporate lending.
The bank also reported improvements in asset quality, with the impaired loan ratio declining to 2 percent and the cost of risk at 37 basis points. Impairment allowances amounted to Dh2.1 billion, primarily due to provisions at DenizBank, partially offset by recoveries at Emirates NBD itself. The group’s liquidity coverage ratio improved by 12 percentage points quarter-on-quarter.
Patrick Sullivan, Group Chief Financial Officer, noted that the bank posted a quarterly profit before tax of Dh8 billion, reflecting consistent earnings performance through the first three quarters.
Emirates NBD is advancing its international expansion strategy with the acquisition of RBL Bank in India and a recent agreement to acquire HSBC Egypt’s retail banking business. These moves are part of the bank’s efforts to strengthen its presence in markets identified as having long-term growth potential and to broaden its customer base.
Shayne Nelson, Group Chief Executive Officer, described the HSBC Egypt acquisition as a significant step in the bank’s regional growth strategy, aimed at deepening its customer franchise within the Egyptian market.
The bank’s wealth management segment also showed notable progress, with assets under management in the UAE rising 15 percent since February 2026. Additionally, Emirates NBD Capital completed over 70 debt capital markets transactions during the year to date, raising in excess of $60 billion across 13 countries.
