Emma Willis emerged as a prominent figure in Saturday night television this weekend, appearing on air for nearly four consecutive hours across two major UK broadcasters. The 50-year-old presenter hosted the second live show of the current Strictly Come Dancing series on BBC One from 6:15 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, alongside fellow new hosts Josh Widdicombe, 43, and Johannes Radebe, 39. Immediately following this, viewers could switch to ITV to watch Willis hosting The Voice from 8:50 p.m. until 10:05 p.m.

This scheduling allowed Willis to avoid competing against herself while effectively dominating prime-time Saturday television. Strictly Come Dancing airs live on Saturdays, with the results show filmed immediately after and broadcast on Sundays, while The Voice episodes were recorded last year. Willis is set to step down from hosting The Voice after this series, with Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon slated as her replacements. This means the current season is likely the only one in which she will simultaneously helm two major Saturday night shows.

Looking ahead, if Willis continues her role on Strictly next year, she may face direct competition from her former show should ITV elect to move The Voice to an earlier time slot.

Ratings have been mixed for Strictly this season. The first live show last week attracted 5.049 million viewers, down from 6.2 million at the same stage the previous year. Saturday’s movie-themed second live show drew a slightly higher audience of 5.1 million viewers but remained about a million below last year’s figures for the corresponding episode. A representative for Strictly noted that despite the year-on-year drop, the Movie Week broadcast was the most-watched program of the evening, peaking at 5.6 million viewers.

Willis’s presence on two competing networks in key presenting roles highlights a rare instance of crossover among high-profile entertainment programs in the UK’s broadcasting landscape.
