WILMINGTON, Del. — A shooting at Wilmington Hospital on Tuesday afternoon left one person dead and another injured, authorities said, as police conducted an active search for the suspect.

According to Wilmington Police Chief Wilfredo Campos, officers responded to the hospital around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found two individuals with gunshot wounds inside the facility. One victim was pronounced dead, while the other was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest the shooter was an employee of the hospital who opened fire on two colleagues. The motive behind the incident has not been disclosed, and police are continuing their investigation.

Law enforcement officials quickly launched a manhunt for the gunman following the shooting. At the time of the chief’s press conference Tuesday evening, authorities were actively searching for the individual and urged anyone with information to come forward.

The incident has raised concerns about security measures in healthcare settings, with hospital staff and local officials calling for increased safety protocols to prevent similar events. Further details about the identities of the victims and the suspect have not been released pending notification of family members.
