England international footballer Ivan Toney appeared in court Wednesday charged with assault following an incident at a London nightclub last year.
The 30-year-old striker, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli, is accused of lunging at and butting a security guard during a confrontation on December 6, 2025, at 100 Wardour Street in London’s West End.
Toney, formerly of Brentford, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Westminster Magistrates’ Court. According to the prosecution, the incident involved both men exchanging punches before Toney advanced and headbutted the security guard, identified as Saber Da Silva. Da Silva sustained injuries to his nose and finger as a result.
Dressed in a black zipped jumper with a white shirt and grey tie, Toney confirmed his identity and entered a not guilty plea. The district judge granted him bail ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing scheduled for October 29 at Southwark Crown Court.
Toney transferred from Brentford to Al Ahli in August 2024 for a reported fee of £40 million. He has earned ten caps for the England national team to date. The case will proceed with further hearings later this month.
