Dubai authorities have intensified efforts to curb illegal dumping of hazardous waste, resulting in the seizure of 17 tankers and the charging of 18 individuals during the first half of 2026. These measures targeted the unlawful disposal of sewage, petrochemical waste, and other dangerous materials outside designated disposal sites.

The crackdown was carried out through coordinated operations involving Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, and the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority. The collaboration aimed to enforce compliance with environmental regulations and prevent harm to the emirate’s ecosystems and public health.

The actions have drawn attention to the broad spectrum of penalties prescribed under UAE law for environmental violations. According to Federal Law No. 24 of 1999 on the Protection and Development of the Environment, offences related to nuclear substances and waste carry the highest fines, reaching up to Dh10 million.

Officials have underscored the importance of strict enforcement to safeguard the environment and warned that violations will be met with significant legal and financial consequences. The authorities continue to monitor waste disposal activities closely to deter future infractions and promote sustainable practices across Dubai and the wider UAE.
