Erik Ten Hag has publicly criticized Manchester United, describing the club’s environment as “toxic” and accusing its leadership of failing to honor commitments made to him. The former manager’s remarks come nearly two years after his departure in October 2024, a move he said followed promises that were not upheld by the club’s owners.

Ten Hag, who had originally secured a one-year contract extension before being dismissed, specifically singled out co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos consortium for their role in the decision to part ways with him. He alleged that the leadership’s actions perpetuated a negative atmosphere within the club rather than addressing underlying issues.

The former manager also raised concerns about the lack of adequate support from Manchester United’s hierarchy in managing the behavior of key players such as Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho. According to Ten Hag, attempts to enforce discipline were undermined by a reluctance among club officials to back his decisions fully.

These comments shed light on internal challenges at one of England’s most prominent football clubs, highlighting tensions between management, ownership, and the playing squad during Ten Hag’s tenure. The club has not issued a formal response to the former manager’s statements.
