KUALA LUMPUR — ERS Energy Sdn Bhd has exceeded 1.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in cumulative utility-scale battery energy storage system (Bess) capacity across Southeast Asia, signaling significant growth in the company’s energy storage operations. According to a company statement, most of this capacity was secured within the past year.

Among the key projects contributing to this milestone is a 520 megawatt-hour (MWh) Bess installation for ACEN Corp, located in Zambales, the Philippines. Additionally, ERS Energy has secured two projects totaling 800 MWh under Malaysia’s inaugural Battery Energy Storage Programme. These developments mark a strategic expansion of the company’s activities beyond solar engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning into utility-scale energy storage development and system integration.

ERS Energy collaborates with established technology partners and financial institutions to manage complex energy storage projects, handling processes from initial design and project financing through to grid synchronization. Jonathan Kan, managing director of ERS Energy, described surpassing 1.5 GWh of energy storage as a reflection of the company’s execution discipline and the confidence placed in it by partners, lenders, and regional grid operators.

He emphasized that energy storage has evolved from a supporting asset to a fundamental component of ASEAN’s clean energy infrastructure. The company highlighted the growing importance of grid flexibility as a key enabler for sustainable growth in the region’s renewable energy landscape.

By bolstering utility-scale battery energy storage capacity, ERS Energy aims to contribute to the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources, supporting grid stability and the broader transition toward cleaner power generation in Southeast Asia.
