A redevelopment project for Pasar Awam SK10 in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, has been allocated RM16.29 million to upgrade its facilities, including the installation of escalators and lifts. The funding comprises RM12 million from the Federal Government, with the remaining contribution provided by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), according to Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.
The new market, covering 0.28 hectares, is slated for completion by August 28, 2028. It will house 230 trader lots, with 172 designated for food vendors on the ground floor and 58 for dry goods sellers and small businesses on the upper level. The redevelopment plans incorporate modern features such as a community space, lockable trading stalls, a management office, a cold room, and sustainable elements including solar panels to promote green energy usage.
The project has faced challenges, particularly regarding the initial design oversight that excluded parking facilities, causing difficulties for traders who have been operating from a temporary site since April 2023. Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki emphasized the importance of completing the project on schedule and advocated for additional amenities, including a multipurpose hall and adequate parking near Jalan Besar.
Officials from the city council and local assembly members participated in the groundbreaking ceremony and the demolition of the old market structure, marking the start of the redevelopment. The upgrades are expected to improve trading conditions and enhance the overall functionality of the market for both vendors and the community.
