Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Prosperity Party has secured a parliamentary majority in the recent national elections, according to the results released by the National Election Board on Sunday. The outcome confirms the party's continued dominance in the country’s political landscape.

The elections, held earlier this month, saw the Prosperity Party maintain its strong position amid a fragmented opposition. Established by Abiy in 2019 after his appointment in 2018, the party was formed following widespread protests that led to the dissolution of the long-standing Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) coalition. In the previous 2021 parliamentary elections, the Prosperity Party won over 90% of the available seats.

Observers had anticipated the party would secure a decisive victory given its prevailing influence and the opposition’s lack of unity. The election results reaffirm the Prosperity Party’s role as the dominant political force in Ethiopia, underscoring Prime Minister Abiy’s continued leadership and control over the government’s legislative agenda.
