Etihad Rail has sold 120,000 tickets in the first month since launching passenger services, signaling a strong uptake for the United Arab Emirates’ national rail network. The ticket sales span from September 30 to October 30, 2026, covering the initial phase following the network's official inauguration.
The rail network currently connects four key cities: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid in Sharjah, and Fujairah, linking them through a growing passenger rail system. Stations in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah had commenced operations earlier during an introductory period, with Dubai Al Yalayis and Al Dhaid stations coming online during the official launch.
Adhhra Almansoori, Executive Director of Commercial and Support at Etihad Rail Mobility, stated that the company aims for passenger rail to become a routine and trusted travel option for residents and visitors. She emphasized that the strong response in the first month reflects passenger confidence and motivates efforts to enhance services based on user feedback.
Etihad Rail offers a variety of onboard amenities designed to appeal to different passenger groups. Charging points cater to professionals needing to work during transit, while families benefit from a relaxed setting free from the demands of road travel. Daily commuters gain an additional, affordable mode of transportation between cities.
To improve multimodal connectivity, Etihad Rail has established partnerships with local transport providers. In Dubai, a pedestrian bridge at Dubai Al Yalayis Station connects directly to the Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station, enabling seamless transfers to the Dubai Metro Red Line. In Abu Dhabi, shuttle buses link Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station with major locations such as ADNOC Headquarters, Reem Mall, and Yas Island’s hotels and attractions. Additional services in Al Dhaid and Fujairah facilitate onward travel for passengers accessing these stations.
Looking ahead, Etihad Rail plans to expand its passenger network with new stations slated for Liwa, Madinat Zayed, and other areas within the Al Dhafra region. This expansion aims to broaden access to rail services, integrating more communities into the national mobility framework.
The growth of the rail network aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to diversify transportation options, reduce road congestion, and promote sustainable travel between cities. Building on the initial success marked by strong ticket sales, Etihad Rail is positioning itself as a significant component in the country’s evolving transport infrastructure.
