The European Union Delegation in Kuwait unveiled the second edition of its cookbook, "A Union of European Flavours," on Tuesday at Si Restaurant in Kuwait City. The cookbook features recipes from all 27 EU member states, presenting a diverse collection that highlights the continent’s rich culinary heritage.
Each EU member state's embassy in Kuwait contributed a traditional recipe, celebrating the variety and depth of Europe’s food traditions. The cookbook is designed to showcase how gastronomy reflects the cultural identities, social customs, and history of European countries.
EU Ambassador to Kuwait Anne Koistinen spoke at the launch, noting the significance of the event in the context of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the EU and Kuwait. She emphasized that the partnership between the two is rooted in shared values, dialogue, and cooperation, with a mutual appreciation for culinary heritage. Koistinen highlighted the diversity inherent to the EU, describing food traditions as an important expression of this identity that has been preserved and transmitted across generations. She also underscored the EU’s commitment to stringent food safety and quality standards.
The event included a live cooking demonstration by Chef Marco Vigonovo of Si Restaurant. Drawing on influences from across Europe and the Mediterranean, Chef Vigonovo’s presentation emphasized sustainable practices, focusing on seasonal ingredients and locally sourced produce. The menu offered during the event reflected this approach, underscoring the importance of sustainability in modern European cuisine.
A digital version of the cookbook is available for download through the EU Delegation’s social media platforms under the handle ‘EUinKuwait,’ allowing wider access to the collection of recipes and fostering ongoing cultural exchange through food.
