European authorities have issued a continent-wide warning regarding ecstasy tablets shaped like the head of former U.S. President Donald Trump. Health officials and scientists in the Netherlands have identified these pills as containing dangerously high levels of para-methoxymethamphetamine (PMMA), a substance chemically similar to MDMA but associated with significantly higher risks.

The alert was prompted by findings from the Utrecht-based Trimbos Institute, which reported that the pills display the image of Donald Trump on one side, with “NL” and “Trump” printed on the opposite side. Researchers emphasized that while PMMA can produce effects resembling those of MDMA, it has a delayed onset time, which may lead users to consume additional doses before the first takes effect. This behavior increases the likelihood of overdose and potentially fatal consequences.

PMMA has been implicated in numerous deaths worldwide since its emergence in the 1970s. The United Kingdom experienced a notable surge in fatalities linked to PMMA use during 2012 and 2013. Authorities caution that the substance is considerably more toxic than MDMA and urge the public to avoid these particular pills entirely.

In issuing the warning, the Trimbos Institute spokesman stated unequivocally that consumption of these tablets poses serious health dangers. The alert underscores ongoing challenges in monitoring and controlling illicit drug markets, where counterfeit substances often carry unpredictable and amplified risks.
