Eva Zabey, CEO of Business for Nature, is advocating for stronger integration of environmental considerations into corporate strategies, emphasizing that recent policy shifts by governments such as the United States should not deter businesses from committing to sustainability. Based in Geneva, Business for Nature is an alliance of over 100 organizations focused on collaborating with companies and policymakers to promote environmental preservation.
Under Zabey's leadership, the group updated its strategic framework last year with the goal of achieving a nature-positive global economy by 2030. This approach includes conducting in-depth national assessments in collaboration with local partners across regions such as South America, Africa, and Asia. A central component of the initiative involves the implementation of mandatory reporting requirements for companies regarding their impacts on natural ecosystems. This reporting mandate is part of the Target 15 initiative, which urges businesses and financial institutions to evaluate, disclose, and transparently reduce their effects on biodiversity and natural resources.
Zabey’s advocacy aligns with her long-standing professional background in sustainable development. Prior to her current role, she spent 15 years as a senior executive at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. With a foundation in ecology, she has been actively engaged in efforts to halt the ongoing decline of critical natural habitats and to advance biodiversity conservation.
Through these efforts, Business for Nature aims to embed environmental resilience into the core of business operations worldwide, regardless of fluctuations in government policies. The group’s push for standardized nature-related disclosures seeks to drive accountability and bolster global commitments to preserving biodiversity amid accelerating environmental challenges.
