At the Inter-state and National Championships held Tuesday at Sunway Megalanes, bowlers from across Malaysia competed in closely contested doubles events, with several categories ultimately decided by just a few pins.

In the women's doubles, Perak's Noor Azra Shukor and Nor Azlita Hashim edged out Pahang with a narrow three-pin victory, finishing with a combined score of 2,157 to 2,154. The boys’ junior doubles also saw a tight finish, as Putrajaya’s Iqbal Zuhairi Akmal Hadi and Anas Irfan Shahar claimed gold with 2,499 pins, narrowly surpassing Selangor’s Adeel Hafiy Jalaludin and Aiman Syahin Sulaiman, who took silver with 2,495. Terengganu’s Syed Irham Fakhri Syid Ahmad and Ahmad Hazim Syahmi Nik Mat completed the podium with 2,435 pins.

The men’s doubles title was secured by the Federal Territories pair Ahmad Azriq Izamudin and Hafiz Zainuddin, who posted a score of 2,510, finishing 13 pins ahead of second-placed Perlis duo Aiman Faris Mahdi and Firhan Iqbal Shrizal with 2,497. Sarawak’s Tsen Fan Yew and Chong Jun Foo captured third place with 2,443 pins. Notably, Jun Foo had earlier won the men’s singles event, with Fan Yew securing third place in the same category.

Sarawak also demonstrated strong performance in the women’s doubles, as Lavinia Kho and Gillian Lim clinched first place with a total of 2,611 pins. Selangor’s Qurratu’ain Izidahr Pozi and Adania Redzwan earned the silver medal with 2,532, while the Federal Territories team of Durriyah Ibrahim and Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal captured bronze with 2,448.

In youth competitions, Johor’s Nur Ainul Hayat Ad Nor and Nurul Aisyah Salleh topped the girls’ doubles with 2,436 pins. Penang’s Aisha Medina Azmudin and Mayra Khayreena Khairi were the runners-up at 2,415, and Sarawak’s Izara Hannah Erwan and Maihanna Mazuan took third place with 2,298.

The senior men’s doubles crown went to Kelantan’s Zaidi Awang and Nasir Mat Zain, who finished with 2,411 pins.

The tournament continued with national championship events on Wednesday, further showcasing the competitive spirit among Malaysia’s top bowlers.
