Caleb Flynn, a former contestant on “American Idol” and current church pastor, denied shooting his wife during a police interview played for jurors on Monday in a trial held in Tipp City, Ohio. Flynn, 40, is charged with fatally shooting Ashley Flynn, 37, inside their home in February.

In the recorded police questioning, Flynn insisted, “I didn’t touch my wife,” despite investigators challenging his account. One detective responded that the evidence appeared to contradict his statements. The recording was presented as part of the prosecution’s case, with Flynn’s defense team choosing not to call any witnesses.

Prosecutors allege that Flynn shot Ashley in the head while she was in bed and their two daughters, aged 10 and 12, slept nearby in separate rooms. Authorities further contend that Flynn attempted to stage the scene to simulate a home invasion. The couple’s children reportedly were present in the home at the time of the incident.

Flynn, who rose to national attention during his participation in the 2013 season of the singing competition, faces serious charges related to the death of his wife. The trial is scheduled to conclude with closing arguments on Tuesday.
