A former superintendent of West Midlands Police, Syed Hussain, has denied charges related to a £720,000 investment fraud scheme. The 54-year-old, who has been dismissed from the police force, appeared at Westminster magistrates’ court on Tuesday where he entered a plea of not guilty to one count of fraud by false representation and one count of transferring criminal property.
Hussain was accompanied in court by co-defendant Farah Ullah, 43, who did not indicate a plea to charges of fraud and two counts of transferring criminal property. Both defendants were committed to appear at Southwark Crown Court for further proceedings.
The allegations concern an investment scam involving a significant sum, with prosecutors asserting that Hussain and Ullah were implicated in fraudulent activity. Details of the alleged scheme have not been disclosed in court.
Hussain’s former employer confirmed his dismissal following the charges but declined further comment. The case remains under investigation as it advances through the court system.
