Authorities in San Bernardino County have charged a man in connection with the execution-style killing of a Southern California resident last week, attributing the violent incident to an ongoing business dispute. The district attorney announced the charges during a press conference on Monday.

Jianquan Bo, 66, of Irvine, faces a felony murder charge with a special circumstance of kidnapping for his involvement in the death of 60-year-old Shukur Aikebaer. The incident unfolded late Wednesday evening in Chino Hills, a suburb about 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

According to officials, Jianquan Bo and his brother, Zhengfeng Bo, 67, allegedly kidnapped Aikebaer from his home. Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire and a man screaming around 10:14 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies spotted the Bo brothers’ vehicle fleeing the scene and initiated a brief car chase. The pursuit ended about a mile from Aikebaer’s residence.

At that point, Jianquan Bo surrendered, but his brother reportedly ran to the rear of the car and fatally shot Aikebaer, who had been confined in the trunk. Deputies returned fire, killing Zhengfeng Bo at the scene. Authorities said they were unaware that Aikebaer was inside the trunk until after the shooting.

Public business records reveal that Aikebaer and Zhengfeng Bo were partners in an Irvine-based investment firm named Panshi Inc. It remains unclear what connection Jianquan Bo had with the victim or the extent of his involvement in the business. District Attorney Jason Anderson suggested the motive was likely related to a business dispute, possibly involving financial disagreements or decision-making conflicts.

“Our investigation shows there was some form of dispute, potentially involving the business or financial loss, which led to this tragic confrontation,” Anderson said.

Despite Jianquan Bo not having fired the fatal shot, prosecutors charged him with murder, stating he was aware of the plan to kidnap and harm Aikebaer. The charge carries the possibility of life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty. Jianquan Bo is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday. Information about his legal counsel was not immediately available.

Family members of Aikebaer observed the announcement in a private room at the sheriff’s station, dressed in mourning attire. Anderson acknowledged the profound impact the crime has had on the victim’s family, describing them as "wonderful" and emphasizing the difficulty they now face.

Investigators are continuing to examine the case. Surveillance video obtained by local outlets reportedly captured part of the incident, showing the moment the second brother approached the rear of the vehicle before the shooting took place.
