An exhibition showcasing more than 2,000 historical documents and artifacts opened in Al Batinah South Governorate, Oman, highlighting the region’s cultural and civilizational heritage. The event runs through October 30 and is organized by the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) in partnership with the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah South.
The exhibition is held in conjunction with the symposium titled “Al Batinah South Governorate in the Memory of Omani History,” and features 11 distinct corners offering a comprehensive presentation of the governorate’s historical journey and the broader history of Oman. Exhibits include a diverse range of materials such as documents, correspondence, photographs, maps, manuscripts, speeches, drawings, newspapers, magazines, and historical publications. Visitors can also view collectibles and tools related to ancient preservation and archiving.
The thematic sections cover various topics including the history of Al Batinah South Governorate through historical documents, the role of the Sultans of Oman and Zanzibar during the Al Busaid State era, private documents and international relations, and the development of documentation and archiving practices.
Dr. Hanan Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Documentary Exhibitions Department at the NRAA, explained that the exhibition is part of the authority’s ongoing work to document and promote the rich historical and cultural legacy of Omani governorates and cities. She emphasized that the exhibition is an annual event hosted in different governorates across Oman and is complemented by mobile documentary exhibitions held throughout the year.
