Brazilian forward Richarlison, currently sidelined from Tottenham Hotspur’s first team, was recently fined for running a red light while driving a rented Chevrolet Corvette in North West London. The incident occurred in April, when an automatic traffic camera recorded the vehicle crossing a stop signal in Hendon 1.5 seconds after the light had turned red.
The footballer, who joined Tottenham from Everton for £60 million in July 2022, was not the registered owner of the car, and initial correspondence regarding the violation was sent to the rental company. Richarlison, whose full name is Richarlison de Andrade, was given the opportunity to avoid penalty points on his driving licence by attending a driver awareness course but did not complete it within the required timeframe.
Last month, the Metropolitan Police charged Richarlison, who pleaded guilty to the offence. On October 19, he appeared at Barkingside magistrates’ court where he was fined £200, with additional court costs of £120 and a victim surcharge of £80. He also received three penalty points on his licence.
Richarlison, 29, has not featured for Tottenham’s first team since their opening-day defeat to Brentford in August. This season, he was excluded from manager Roberto De Zerbi’s 25-man Premier League squad following unsuccessful transfer attempts during the summer. The forward resides in Hadley Wood, London, and reportedly earns £75,000 per week.
Earlier this year, Richarlison shared that he initially failed his UK driving theory test, citing difficulties with roundabouts. In a separate incident last year, a teammate filmed him exiting a Corvette and hitting the hood of his own Mercedes Benz after being honked at in traffic, a video Richarlison posted on social media with a caption about impatience on the road.
