A Bangladeshi family living in Abu Dhabi suffered a fatal car crash on Monday night, resulting in the deaths of a mother and her teenage son, authorities confirmed.

The Abu Dhabi Bangladeshi Embassy identified the deceased as 48-year-old Ashima Chowdhury and her 15-year-old son, Aritra Biswas. Reports indicate that the family’s car was struck from behind by a speeding vehicle. Local police are currently investigating the circumstances of the collision.

A family friend and journalist, Sanjit Kumar Shil, who was traveling to the same community event as the family and was reportedly five minutes behind them, described encountering the emergency response at the scene. “I saw police and ambulance rushing past my car,” he said. Upon arriving at the crash site, he realized the victims were people he had known for years, expressing shock at the tragedy.

Sree Swarup has been living in the UAE since 2003 and works as an engineer in the capital, while his wife was employed with a travel agency. Their eldest daughter was at home during the accident and is currently pursuing university studies in Dubai. Their son attended school in Abu Dhabi.
