An explosion on a gas pipeline at the Tishreen power plant in Syria on Wednesday caused the shutdown of three power plants, according to Syria’s electricity company. The blast disrupted the gas supply necessary for the operation of these facilities.

Two individuals sustained injuries in the incident, state-operated Ekhbariya TV reported. Following the explosion, a fire broke out but was subsequently contained, the Syrian Civil Defense stated. The emergency responders have since moved into the cooling phase of managing the fire site.

No further details about the cause of the explosion or the extent of damage to the infrastructure were immediately available. The disruption has affected electricity generation in the area amid ongoing challenges in Syria’s energy sector.
