The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has announced an extension of interim-use tenancies granted to businesses at Punggol East and Tebing Lane, providing affected tenants with additional time to manage the transition prior to redevelopment. The extension pushes the lease expiry date from December 31, 2026, to December 31, 2027.
The SLA, which manages state land and properties not immediately needed for long-term development, typically grants interim-use tenancies based on Singapore’s urban planning and development schedules. When such sites are designated for future development, the SLA collaborates with relevant government agencies and master tenants to coordinate the timely return of the land.
Ahead of the initial lease expiry at the end of 2026, SLA and associated agencies engaged with the four master tenants managing the affected sites, as well as various businesses and grassroots advisers in the area. These discussions took into consideration the operational and relocation challenges faced by some tenants.
Following a review of development timelines by planning and development authorities, adjustments were made that enabled SLA to offer a final one-year extension to the four master tenants. This extension aims to support businesses that have encountered difficulties in securing alternative premises and managing their relocation processes.
The SLA expressed appreciation for the efforts made by some businesses to plan for their transition in advance. The authority and relevant agencies have pledged to continue engaging with tenants and assisting them in identifying suitable relocation options wherever possible.
This move comes in response to concerns raised by some affected businesses about the challenges of meeting original relocation deadlines, reflecting a more flexible approach in handling Singapore’s evolving land use needs while balancing the interests of interim users.
