Fairlawn Flyer, Naval Light, and several others attracted attention on a busy day of racing across Britain, with notable performances at Cartmel, Epsom, Chepstow, and Ripon.

At Cartmel, Fairlawn Flyer, rated 4.19, is set to take advantage of favorable conditions in the Wicks Group Cavendish Cup Handicap Chase. Although he has not won since a five-race winning streak last year, the horse returns on ground that suits him after a break. After dropping 4 pounds below his last winning rating and coming out of wind surgery since finishing third at Uttoxeter, he is expected to respond positively. Sean Bowen retains the mount, continuing his successful partnership with the horse over the last three victories. Notably, Fairlawn Flyer’s previous win was over the same course and distance.

At Epsom, Naval Light is favored in the Betfred "The Classic Bookmaker" Handicap after displaying competitive form in earlier races. The three-year-old, trained by Karl Burke, has won at Pontefract and Catterick and recently finished seventh to Ghost Mode in a strong handicap at Glorious Goodwood. Today, he meets a somewhat lower class field and is expected to benefit from a return to seven furlongs on good to soft ground.

Meanwhile, at Chepstow, the LSL Racing Chepstow Mile Series Final Handicap presents a competitive field, but Law of Design stands out as a contender on softer turf. The horse showed its best performances on soft ground, notably at Ascot both as a juvenile and last year, only narrowly beaten by Forty Years On—a recent Goodwood handicap winner. Since those runs, Law of Design’s rating has declined, but a recent fifth-place finish on firmer ground at Chepstow indicated retained ability despite the less favorable surface.

At Ripon, Star Start aims to regain winning form in the AJA Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap after falling in the same race last year while challenging strongly. A former winner in this contest two years ago, Star Start has undergone two wind surgeries since then and recently returned to victory at Pontefract. Jockey Charli Parker resumes riding duties today, with the horse carrying 2 pounds less than during the previous 2024 win.

The day also marked another successful chapter for Wathnan, whose horses secured wins across four countries— the United States, Germany, France, and Britain—underlining an expanding international presence in thoroughbred racing.
