Fakenham Town secured their first league victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Canvey Island in a Division One North clash on Saturday. The home side took the lead in the 18th minute when Ross Wall capitalized on a cross deep in the penalty area to slot the ball home.
Canvey Island responded quickly, equalizing just two minutes later through Jake Watts, who finished a well-timed pass from Finley Whiteley. The visitors maintained momentum for much of the match, but Fakenham regained control in the second half.
The decisive moment came in the 72nd minute when Whiteley once again set up Watts, who calmly placed the ball beyond Canvey Island’s goalkeeper Kasey Clark to put Fakenham ahead. With 13 minutes remaining, substitute Valter Da Rocha sealed the victory by firing a shot into the top corner.
Watts was a standout performer for Fakenham Town, playing a key role in both of his team’s go-ahead goals. The win marks an important step for Fakenham as they look to improve their league standing after a slow start to the season.
