Bijan Robinson led the Atlanta Falcons with 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns as they secured a 45-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. The win, which improved Atlanta’s record to 2-2, overshadowed the festivities marking the 20th anniversary of the reopening of the Superdome following Hurricane Katrina.
The Falcons dominated early, never trailing in the contest and controlling the line of scrimmage throughout the game. Atlanta outgained New Orleans on the ground 207 yards to just 50, with Brian Robinson adding three short rushing touchdowns to the Falcons’ ground game.
Quarterback Michael Penix Jr., returning to action after a recent absence, completed 15 of 20 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown. His 31-yard touchdown pass to Jahan Dotson late in the fourth quarter effectively sealed the victory and prompted many Saints fans to leave the venue. Penix has now helped the Falcons secure consecutive wins, including a victory over Green Bay prior to this game.
For the Saints, Alvin Kamara found the end zone twice for his first touchdowns of the season, with the second narrowing Atlanta’s lead to 31-17 early in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Tyler Shough threw for 286 yards, connecting late with Devaughn Vele for a touchdown, but New Orleans was unable to overcome Atlanta’s lead.
The Falcons’ balanced offensive effort and stout run defense prevented the Saints from gaining momentum, marking a key win as Atlanta looks to build consistency this season. Meanwhile, New Orleans, now 1-3, will seek to regroup following their second consecutive loss.
