Falkirk manager John McGlynn has identified young prospect Paul McGovern as a potential striker for the club, though he acknowledges the Northern Ireland Under-19 international will require time to adapt to the new environment. The 18-year-old, who previously played as a winger for Glenavon where he scored nine goals last season, made his debut in Falkirk’s recent friendly victory over Airdrie.
McGlynn emphasized the club’s intention to use McGovern across various attacking positions as he continues to develop. "Paul is going to play across all the forward positions," McGlynn said, noting that while McGovern may initially feature on the wing, the long-term plan envisions him evolving into a central forward role. The manager highlighted the player’s quick changes of direction and ability to take shots as key attributes that suit the No. 9 position.
Despite McGovern’s promising attributes and international experience at youth level, McGlynn cautioned against rushing the teenager’s progression. “He’s had a really good apprenticeship,” he said, adding that the club does not want to place undue pressure on McGovern as he settles into the team and style of play. The approach reflects Falkirk’s emphasis on nurturing young talent while allowing them to adjust gradually to the demands of senior football.
