A man has died following a collision on the A1(M) motorway in County Durham in the early hours of Saturday. Ryan Scarth, 31, of Sherburn Village, was involved in the crash at around 2:20 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scarth’s family described him as a devoted father, partner, brother, son, and uncle. In a statement, they expressed their deep sorrow and highlighted his close relationships, saying he “lived for his two boys” and his memory would live on through them. They also noted the impact his loss has had on friends and the community, describing him as someone who could “light up” a room with his smile.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that specially trained officers are supporting the family during this difficult time. Investigators are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
