The family of a 15-year-old girl who was fatally struck by an excavation truck while riding a Citi Bike in Manhattan’s East Village last week has issued a statement requesting privacy as they mourn their loss.

Daria Serkov was killed around 9 p.m. last Friday while cycling on 14th Street accompanied by a 13-year-old friend. According to the family, the excavation truck struck Serkov, pinning her beneath its wheels. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver stayed at the location following the collision.
