A three-year-old boy from Cambridgeshire who was seriously injured in a crocodile attack at a zoo near Huntingdon has been moved to a stable condition following multiple surgeries. The boy was pulled from the crocodile enclosure by zoo staff after the incident, which prompted a police response.
The authorities were alerted after the child was reportedly attacked by at least one crocodile at the attraction. A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the attack but was later released on bail after being deemed unfit for interview.
In a statement released through Cambridgeshire police, the boy’s family expressed their gratitude to the zoo employees who intervened to rescue him. They emphasized that their focus remains on the child’s recovery and supporting him during what they described as an extremely challenging and prolonged period. The family has chosen to remain anonymous.
The boy is currently receiving treatment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Police confirmed that a fundraising campaign has been established to assist with his ongoing medical care and rehabilitation, as well as to provide financial support to the family throughout this difficult time.
The fundraising appeal detailed that the child has undergone several surgeries and is stable but faces a long recovery process. It also acknowledged the “extraordinary bravery and quick actions” of witnesses and staff who helped rescue the boy from the crocodile enclosure.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack as the family rallies around the child during his recovery.
