Amy and Damien Schoenau celebrated their wedding on September 19 at Al Ru Farm near Murray Bridge, marking a significant milestone for their blended family. The couple, both from the Murray Bridge region, exchanged vows in a ceremony that combined personal touches and heartfelt moments.
The proposal took place earlier at Mount Gambier’s Blue Lake, where Damien surprised Amy by dropping to one knee. Amy’s initial reaction included an expression of concern for the ring’s safety before accepting. The wedding festivities that followed featured an elaborate dessert tower, a DJ, a photo booth, and a first dance to Alexandra Kay’s “That’s What Love Is.”
More than a formal union, the day symbolized the merging of their families. Amy’s children Neko, Noah, and Willow joined the celebration alongside their niece and nephew, Logan and Gemma. The couple took an active role in preparing the flowers and decorations, adding to the event’s personal atmosphere. Amy wore a Forever Your Bridal gown, customized with long sleeves and a sparkling veil, while Damien and his groomsmen wore emerald green suits.
The ceremony included a poignant moment when Amy shared a dance with her brother to the song “You Should Be Here,” in memory of their father, Francis “Frank” Ramsbottom, who passed away six months prior. Amy, 38, is the daughter of Jennifer Ramsbottom and the late Francis Ramsbottom of Murray Bridge. Damien, 28, is the son of Trevor Schoenau and Jodie Pope, also of Murray Bridge.
Reflecting on the day, Amy described the wedding as “magical” and said it exceeded their expectations. Looking ahead, the couple plans to take their time before their honeymoon, aiming to travel on their first anniversary next year, with the destination yet to be finalized.
