A San Diego family experienced an unusual encounter when a burglar entered their home earlier this month, only to be met with unexpected friendliness from one of their dogs. The incident occurred while homeowner Dante Rowley and his family monitored the situation remotely via their home-security app.

According to reports, the intruder accessed the residence by climbing a ladder to reach an open second-story window. Once inside, he removed his shoes and shirt before settling in the foyer and helping himself to items from the kitchen, including yogurt, turkey, and cheese. The family had three dogs in the house at the time, two of which were present during the intrusion.

One of the dogs, a 90-pound golden retriever named Nash, displayed a notably non-confrontational response throughout the break-in. Instead of acting defensively, Nash repeatedly brought toys to the intruder and appeared to attempt to engage him in play. The scene, observed remotely by the Rowleys, contrasted sharply with the typical expectation of a guard dog deterring an intruder.

Law enforcement arrived on the scene shortly afterward. The suspect tried to escape through a bathroom window but was apprehended in the backyard by responding officers. No injuries to the family or the dogs were reported in connection with the incident.

The incident highlights an unusual interaction between a household pet and an intruder, demonstrating a rare example of animal behavior during a home invasion. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the break-in.
