A Liverpool supporter accused of racially abusing winger Antoine Semenyo experienced a seizure during his trial and was taken to hospital. Mark Mogan, 47, faces allegations of directing a racial slur at Semenyo during the opening Premier League match of the season on August 15, 2025, as the player prepared to take a throw-in for Bournemouth at Enfield.
Semenyo, 26, who currently plays for Manchester City, was scheduled to give evidence via videolink at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on the day of the hearing. The trial coincided with Semenyo’s planned participation in a Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain. However, Mogan, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair, suffered a seizure during the lunch break of the court hearing and was subsequently admitted to hospital.
A request to proceed with the trial in Mogan’s absence was denied by the district judge. It was also disclosed in court that Mogan’s bail conditions include a prohibition on entering any regulated football grounds. The trial is expected to resume at a later date pending Mogan’s recovery.
