A fan site dedicated to South Korean rapper and former BigBang member T.O.P has announced its closure after two decades, citing ongoing frustrations with the artist and his agency, Topspot Pictures. The site, Choidot, which operated since August 2006, revealed on October 10 that it would cease operations due to what its administrators described as neglect and inadequate communication from T.O.P and his management.
The decision came amid the cancellation of a planned fan-organized exhibition celebrating T.O.P’s first solo album, Another Dimension. The event, originally scheduled for October 31 and November 1, was expected to attract around 300 visitors, with ticket sales intended to cover the majority of the approximate nine million won (S$8,600) budget. Despite promotional efforts and an extended registration period, only about 20 people registered within the initial week, leading to significant financial losses. The organizers estimated that the shortfall reached about seven million won and subsequently canceled the exhibition.
While recent news of T.O.P’s confirmed relationship with singer and actress Nana contributed to some cancellations, the fan site operators disputed claims that the relationship was the primary reason behind the event’s failure. They emphasized that many fans, including themselves, were aware of the couple’s relationship prior to its public announcement but had respected the artist’s privacy. Instead, they pointed to a prolonged lack of engagement and transparency from both T.O.P and Topspot Pictures as the root cause of their decision to shut down.
The operators criticized Topspot Pictures for failing to establish proper communication channels, leaving much of the fan interaction, promotion, translation, and coordination of activities to the fan site itself. They expressed disappointment over the scarce promotional efforts and public appearances following the release of T.O.P’s solo album in April. The fan site noted that despite the artist’s stated intention to create the album for his fans, there were insufficient opportunities for performances or direct engagement in the five months since its release.
In response, Topspot Pictures issued an apology acknowledging gaps in communication and support for fans. The agency pledged to pay closer attention to fan feedback and to improve its communication practices in the future. It committed to announcing any changes through its official channels.
T.O.P and Nana publicly confirmed their relationship on October 2, revealing they began dating in June after meeting during the filming of a music video for his song Studio54.
