Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party, has been reported to the Metropolitan Police by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage over an Instagram post perceived as threatening. The post, shared on July 26, featured an image of a man wearing a T-shirt displaying a guillotine graphic, accompanied by the caption, "We’re only making plans for Nigel." Polanski shared the image with his roughly 700,000 Instagram followers as part of several photos from a Green Party rally held in Bristol.

Farage described the post as “inciteful” and demanded that Polanski be arrested. He argued that he would have faced arrest himself if he had posted similar content. The incident has drawn increased concern as it occurred less than three weeks after the fatal stabbing of Ann Widdecombe, a veteran Reform UK politician who was attacked at her home in Devon. Joshua Kerry, 28, has been charged with Widdecombe’s murder.

The controversial image originally appeared on a different account, which invited Polanski to co-author the post. A spokesman for Polanski said that upon learning of the problematic image, Polanski promptly removed it from his profile and stressed that he “unequivocally does not support this type of dangerous message.” In the photo, the man wearing the guillotine T-shirt was attending the event described as a “Green Party party” — a rally promoted as "a day of love, joy, community and bangers."

Reform UK spokesperson Zia Yusuf condemned the post as “incitement to murder,” emphasizing the timing so soon after Widdecombe’s killing as “staggering.” In response to ongoing security concerns following the murder, Reform UK has implemented round-the-clock protection for its MPs and senior figures, citing repeated harassment and threats, including individuals being followed and filmed during their daily routines. The party has called for the MPs’ security budget to increase from £4 million to £100 million, arguing that threats of violence have become an ingrained aspect of their political environment.

Farage himself has received nearly 600 death threats this year and recently resigned as the Member of Parliament for Clacton amid a parliamentary investigation into a £5 million donation from Thai billionaire Christopher Harborne.

Lord Walney, a former government adviser on political violence, stated that Polanski’s sharing of such material suggested the need for “serious consequences.” The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for comment but has not yet responded. Meanwhile, the London Assembly, where Polanski holds a seat, has also been informed of the post.
