Fast Famous appears poised for a promising racing debut following a strong performance in recent barrier trials at Sungai Besi. Trained by Sivan Veerapen, the three-year-old New Zealand-bred son of Ferrando demonstrated marked improvement on Oct. 13, leading throughout the third of six trials that morning and winning by a length over Hard To Be Sure. Kim Kim finished a close third, just a neck behind the runner-up.
This result is a clear turnaround from Fast Famous’s previous trial on Sept. 22, where he finished fourth of eight runners, trailing the winner Silver Bullet by over five lengths. Since arriving in Singapore’s training yard on May 22, the colt’s latest gallop showcased smooth and fluent action, suggesting that his racing debut could be imminent.
Another noteworthy performance came from Banker’s Pretty, a six-year-old mare trained by the same stable. Under jockey Johari Kamaruddin, she closed strongly from second place at the 600-meter mark to narrowly defeat Storm Chaser by a short head. Lucky Magic completed the top three, trailing by about five lengths. Notably, Banker’s Pretty recorded the fastest time of all six trials on the yielding track that morning, stopping the clock at 58.21 seconds.
Banker’s Pretty, by Starspangledbanner, has struggled to find consistent form recently. She has been without a win in her last four starts, her most recent victory dating back to July 19 in a Class 2 race over 1,200 meters. Despite carrying favorites’ support in several outings since then, her best finish was third behind Elite Prince on Aug. 9. With just one win from 15 career starts in Malaysia, her latest trial performance indicates she may be ready to return to winning ways.
Swift Victory is another contender to watch following the trials. Trained by Cheng Han Yong and ridden by Haikal Hanif, the four-year-old Derryn gelding improved to win the second trial by a neck over Good Luck Boss, posting a solid time of 59.35 seconds. Although he is yet to secure a win in Malaysia, Swift Victory had previously been sidelined due to respiratory concerns after his last start on Sept. 27. Having cleared the veterinary examinations, he is now cleared to race again and could be on the verge of breaking through.
These recent trial results underline the competitive nature of the stable’s runners as they prepare for upcoming races in the region.
