An electrical fire in a five-story apartment building on West 49th Street in the Theater District resulted in one fatality and left another person hospitalized in stable condition on Saturday morning. The fire broke out around 11:15 a.m. on the top floor of the building located between Eighth and Ninth avenues in Hell’s Kitchen.

Seventy-nine firefighters and emergency medical personnel from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) and EMS responded to the scene. Fire marshals later determined that the blaze was accidental in nature.

Two individuals were rescued from the building and transported to hospitals in critical condition. One of the victims succumbed to injuries, while the other’s condition improved to stable, according to officials. The investigation into the exact cause of the electrical fire remains ongoing.
