A 62-year-old man died after losing control of a modified electric bike capable of reaching 30 mph, an inquest heard. Alan Tedder had purchased the e-bike through Facebook Marketplace, reportedly believing it was a standard electric bicycle. However, the vehicle, a Revvi model, was capable of speeds twice the legal assisted limit for e-bikes and was classified as a moped.

The incident occurred in May of the previous year in Potter Heigham, Norfolk. Mr. Tedder had been riding home from a pub after consuming three pints of strong lager. At the time of the collision, he was traveling at approximately 20 mph when Keith Buckley, driving behind him at 30 mph, attempted to overtake.

According to testimony given at Norfolk Coroner’s Court, Mr. Buckley recounted that Mr. Tedder suddenly lost control of the e-bike. The bike swerved into a roadside bank, causing Mr. Tedder to fall into the path of the vehicle. Mr. Buckley stated, “The bike swerved, went into the bank and he landed in the road. I drove over him.”

The coroner’s court returned a verdict of accidental death.
