Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has identified worn-out tyres, faulty lights, absence of reflective stickers, and unsafe loading as the most common safety defects in trailers operating within the emirate, following a recent inspection campaign conducted in the first half of the year.

The campaign, launched under the slogan “Trailer Safety,” targeted approximately 1,500 heavy vehicle drivers on key roads across Dubai. Its primary focus was to ensure compliance with trailer licensing requirements and technical safety standards, as well as to raise awareness about road safety regulations pertinent to trailers.

During the inspections, RTA officials found numerous trailers equipped with degraded tyres, malfunctioning rear and side lights, and missing mandatory reflective stickers at the rear. Additionally, cases of improper loading were noted, posing potential risks not only to the vehicles themselves but also to other road users.

To address these issues, the campaign incorporated an educational component aimed at informing drivers about the technical specifications their trailers must satisfy. This included guidelines on tyres, brakes, lighting systems, and other crucial safety features. Drivers were also reminded of the necessity to maintain current trailer licences and registrations and to hold valid professional driving permits.

As part of efforts to enhance accessibility of safety information, participating drivers received a QR code that provided safety guidance materials in Arabic, English, and Urdu.

Saeed Al Ramsi, director of licensing activities monitoring at the RTA, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the authority’s broader commitment to bolstering road safety and reducing accidents involving heavy vehicles. He noted that such routine campaigns contribute significantly to the RTA’s traffic safety strategy by promoting health, safety, and security on Dubai’s roads, while also supporting the logistics and transport sectors through safer driving environments for all road users.
