A 17-year-old California teenager reportedly vanished after his former juvenile hall therapist was arrested on multiple felony charges related to an alleged sexual relationship. The boy’s mother expressed concern that he may have sought out the therapist despite court restrictions.

Sofia Drotts, 26, of San Francisco, was taken into custody two weeks ago on accusations of grooming and raping the adolescent while employed as a counselor at a Contra Costa County juvenile detention facility. Authorities say Drotts continued contact with the teen following his release from custody in April by impersonating a teenage girlfriend and using a burner phone to communicate covertly.

Although Drotts was released on bail Monday, she faces several felony counts including unlawful sexual intercourse. The investigation revealed that the teenager had been in contact with Drotts multiple times since his release and was reportedly on a video call with her at the moment police arrested her in Concord.

The boy’s mother, who requested anonymity to protect her son’s identity, said her son disappeared shortly after Drotts’s arrest. She fears he may have run away to be with the former therapist, despite the alleged impropriety of their relationship and any court orders prohibiting contact.

“I don’t know where he is. I hope he’s not with her,” the mother said, describing her distress over the situation. The family’s efforts to locate the teen remain ongoing.

The teenager reportedly views the relationship with Drotts as consensual, complicating the case legally and emotionally. Authorities have not released further details about the investigation or the teen’s whereabouts. The community and legal officials continue to monitor the situation closely amid concerns over the exploitation of vulnerable youth within the juvenile system.
