Gary Snavely, a convicted child predator who sexually abused two girls in the 1980s, was released from state custody on Wednesday and has taken up residence in Borrego Springs, San Diego County. San Diego County Sheriff's deputies, along with members of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force, have been going door-to-door to inform neighbors about Snavely’s presence and to provide guidance on protective measures for children and families. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the notifications aim to help the public safeguard themselves against registered sex offenders.

Snavely’s placement in the community follows a decision by Superior Court Judge Daniel B. Goldstein, who granted approval in June after considering input from local residents. Under the terms of his release, Snavely is residing on Running M. Road.

Authorities have not disclosed specific restrictions placed on Snavely but are maintaining ongoing monitoring efforts to ensure public safety. Community members have expressed concern and heightened awareness since the news of his return surfaced.
