Rio Ngumoha, the 18-year-old Liverpool winger, is preparing to make a significant impact with the England senior football team as they build toward the European Championship in 2028. Having impressed during England’s pre-World Cup training camp in Florida, Ngumoha is seen as a promising talent poised to step up under manager Thomas Tuchel.

Ngumoha described himself as "fearless" on the pitch, emphasizing his willingness to take on opponents in one-on-one and even two-on-one situations. He highlighted his commitment to contributing both offensively and defensively, saying his focus extends beyond personal achievements to helping the team secure wins and trophies.

“I like to think I help the team out on and off the ball. Being fearless, but also contributing to the team,” Ngumoha stated. He also expressed confidence in the power of setting clear goals, noting his belief in manifesting success despite the challenges.

The winger acknowledged the importance of current Nations League matches as a foundation for future success, particularly with the England squad aiming to win the Euros when held on home soil.

Ngumoha’s rise over the past year has been notable. He scored a dramatic late winner for Liverpool in a Premier League match against Newcastle in August 2025 and accumulated 31 senior appearances with the club. His England senior debut came in a pre-tournament friendly against New Zealand, signaling his arrival on the international stage despite not making the final World Cup squad.

Reflecting on his journey, Ngumoha described the moment he informed his family of his England call-up as unforgettable. “I told my mum, then my brother. My mum was next to my brother, so I called them, and then they started screaming down my phone,” he recalled.

Looking ahead, Ngumoha aims to establish himself as a consistent presence in the national team, aware that competition for places is fierce. “I want to be a mainstay in the team. But there’s good competition everywhere, so it’s competing with the best players in the world now. It’s good,” he said.

As England continues its preparations and builds towards upcoming international tournaments, Ngumoha’s fearless approach and emerging talent are expected to play a key role in the team’s ambitions.
