Fenerbahce has secured the signing of Dutch defender Nathan Ake from Manchester City, ending the 31-year-old’s six-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium. Ake joined City in 2020 from Bournemouth for a reported transfer fee of £41 million and played a part in the club’s successful run that included four Premier League titles and a Champions League victory.

During the most recent season under manager Pep Guardiola, Ake found opportunities limited, making only six Premier League starts. With one year remaining on his four-year contract, the defender is set to continue his career in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Fenerbahce’s official announcement confirmed an agreement was reached and a contract signed with Ake, although Manchester City have yet to comment publicly on the transfer. The move comes shortly after Aziz Yildirim was re-elected as president of Fenerbahce, with Ake reportedly identified as a key target by Yildirim during his campaign.

On the international stage, Ake featured twice for the Netherlands during the recent World Cup, including a substitute appearance in the knockout round against Morocco. The Dutch team was eliminated in the penalty shootout in that match.

This transfer marks a significant recruitment for Fenerbahce as the club looks to bolster its defensive options ahead of the new season.
