Exeter Chiefs wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso is set to miss his club’s upcoming Champions Cup match against Toulouse on Sunday due to a hamstring injury sustained during last weekend’s 34-28 victory over Newcastle Red Bulls. The 23-year-old underwent a scan following the injury, which revealed minor damage, and both club and England medical staff are monitoring his recovery closely.

Feyi-Waboso, who has been plagued by injuries throughout his young career, has reported feeling able to move freely despite the setback. Exeter’s director of rugby, Rob Baxter, indicated that while it is unlikely Feyi-Waboso will recover in time for the Toulouse fixture, the outlook for his return in the near future remains positive. “The scan doesn’t show up too much,” Baxter said, emphasizing that on-field testing showed promising signs, and that the player’s functional condition is good. Physiotherapists from both Exeter and England have been involved in assessing his progress to ensure an appropriate treatment plan.

As one of England’s 25 centrally contracted players, Feyi-Waboso’s medical management falls under the remit of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), which is working in conjunction with Exeter Chiefs to ensure his availability for England’s autumn internationals. The national team’s schedule begins on November 8 with a home match against Australia, followed by fixtures against Japan and New Zealand. England is keen to have Feyi-Waboso fit for these matches, given his significance as a key attacking asset.

Feyi-Waboso’s injury history has been a significant factor in his career trajectory. After a breakthrough year in 2024, he dislocated his shoulder during the Christmas period and subsequently missed much of the 2025 season, including the Six Nations and a potential British & Irish Lions tour, due to re-injury and associated medical decisions. This year, he was set to start against Wales in the Six Nations but was sidelined by a hamstring injury just before the match. He did, however, participate in all three of England’s July Nations Championship Tests, delivering a notable performance against Argentina.

While Exeter remains cautious about rushing his return, both club and country express optimism that Feyi-Waboso will recover in time to contribute to England’s autumn campaign. Baxter highlighted that there is no indication of a long-term issue at this stage and suggested that further intervention may not be necessary, depending on how Feyi-Waboso responds to ongoing treatment and monitoring. The situation remains under close review as both parties navigate the challenge of balancing club commitments with national team preparations.
