The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has entered into a financing agreement with the Finance Division of Bangladesh to promote the adoption of solar energy across the country. The deal, valued at Tk500 crore, was formalized on Tuesday with the aim of extending clean energy access, particularly in underserved communities.

Joint Secretary Naznin Sultana signed the agreement on behalf of the Finance Division, while PKSF Senior General Manager AKM Nuruzzaman represented the foundation. Under the terms of the partnership, PKSF will provide loans to consumers through its network of partner organizations, offering an interest rate of 6%. This effort is being implemented under a new initiative called the “Renewable Energy Financing Programme.”

The program is intended to enhance Bangladesh’s energy security by diversifying the nation’s energy mix and expanding access to renewable power sources. By increasing solar power deployment, the initiative aims to support environmentally sustainable energy solutions, reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuel-based electricity, and stimulate greater private-sector involvement in the country’s sustainable development goals.

Officials emphasized that the financing scheme will help address energy challenges faced by rural and low-income communities, fostering economic development through improved energy availability. The collaboration aligns with broader government objectives to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.

The partnership represents a significant step toward scaling up renewable energy infrastructure in Bangladesh, reflecting ongoing efforts to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.
