At least 15 people, predominantly students, died in a fire that erupted at an animation training centre in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, northern India, on Monday. The blaze occurred in the Aliganj area of the city, according to local authorities.

Police reports indicated that approximately 21 students were inside the facility when the fire started. Emergency responders arrived at the scene as the fire spread, but despite rescue efforts, the death toll reached 15.

Video footage from the site depicted uniformed personnel carrying the victims’ bodies while a crowd looked on. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the circumstances that led to the high number of casualties in the confined space.
