A large residential fire in Drammen, a city in southern Norway, destroyed more than 100 homes and led to the evacuation of hundreds of residents, authorities reported Saturday. The blaze began around 3:30 p.m. Friday in a townhouse and rapidly spread through the surrounding neighborhood as well as into nearby forested areas.

Firefighters continued efforts Saturday morning to contain and control the fire, which officials said is the largest residential blaze recorded in modern Norwegian history. The Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection confirmed the scale of the event and coordinated emergency response efforts.

Hundreds of people sought shelter at evacuation centers established in the city. Despite the extensive damage and displacement, authorities reported that no residents were missing. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with no definitive explanation yet provided.
