See The Fire is set to face a familiar rival, Diamond Necklace, in the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on Saturday, aiming to claim victory after two previous attempts. The Andrew Balding-trained filly finished second to Opera Singer in the 2024 edition and placed third last year behind Ballydoyle’s Whirl.

Diamond Necklace, trained by Aidan O’Brien, enters the race as the strong favorite at odds of 8-13, seeking to extend an impressive season that includes wins in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches and Prix de Diane. See The Fire is rated the second choice at 7-2, coming off a mixed campaign.

Following successes in the Listed Nottinghamshire Oaks at Nottingham and the Group Two Middleton Stakes at York, See The Fire struggled in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, finishing sixth behind Ombudsman. Balding reported that the filly has since benefited from a break and appears to be in good form during recent workouts. He expressed some concern over her below-par performance at Ascot but remains optimistic that the conditions on Saturday, including the expected ground, will suit her better.

Balding also commented on Kalpana, last weekend’s winner of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. The trainer noted that she has recovered well but indicated that her future campaign plans have yet to be finalized, adding that she will undergo a relatively easy two weeks of preparation.

The upcoming race marks another significant test for See The Fire as she contends with a strong field, with O’Brien’s filly positioned as the clear favorite based on her accomplished record this season.
